As the title says, hey y’all. 😉
My name is Brittany and you might remember me from my former blog, Chicken Nugs and Mama Hugs. As a proud autism mom, Chicken Nugs and Mama Hugs was a blog about my family’s experiences as an autism family.
However, life has changed a LOT for me and my family over the last year or so, and we are not the same people we were back when I was writing Chicken Nugs and Mama Hugs.
Life has taught me a lot. I’ve been given many blessings, but I’ve also had to learn some extremely hard lessons, and sadly my family is not the same as it once was.
After a lot of thinking I decided to start a new blog. I originally ended Chicken Nugs and Mama Hugs because I felt others were doing a much better job educating people on the lives of autism families. But I missed the point, y’all… people don’t usually follow a blog because they just need information or resources; they follow ‘cause they relate to the stories told. And yes, there are tons of other autism blogs out there but I realize now that- just like people living on the spectrum- not everyone’s experiences are the same even though they may share a common diagnosis.
People need to know they’re not alone in their life’s experiences; that’s why we follow celebrities we like, or influencers and bloggers; we see something in them we like and/or relate to. In the world of an autism parent- and special needs parents in general- it’s even more important to connect with others who “get it”. This life can be so hard, and so isolating if you don’t know many people in your real life who are also special needs parents. Not only that, but it’s so hard just to be a woman in today’s world- if you know, you know! Sometimes we all need a little reminder that somebody out there- even if it’s just a stranger on the internet- “gets it”.
Our story is not done, and we have important experiences to share for those who may need to hear them.
That being said, welcome to Chicken Nugs and Coffee Mugs- a new blog for a new story. This blog will tell the stories of me and my son Sawyer going forward. This is not a new chapter- it’s a whole new story, in every way.
I will write about everything- my life as a mother, experiences as an autism parent, and the changes that have led us here. Sometimes I may even post some product reviews or something, too, ‘cause I know we all love to find a new holy grail mascara or a great book to read! However, one big change is that I am not going to be as forthcoming with the fine details of our life anymore. I will still be the brutally honest Brittany you may have already come to know (and hopefully love!), but I’m going to be a little more guarded about the information I share.
I have always been a very open person, but unfortunately life has taught me that I can’t be that person anymore because some people will use anything and everything they can against you if it benefits them in some way. And anything you put online can be twisted and taken out of context by people if they try hard enough, so I have to do what’s best for me and for Sawyer. I hope you can understand that.
I plan to fill this blog with encouragement, nuggets of wisdom I’ve learned along my journey, and positivity. It may not always be fun, but it will always be real. To quote one of my favorite 90’s songs, “I’m a little bit of everything, all rolled into one”. 😉
Subscribe and follow along as we write the pages of what I pray will be our best story yet. We’re so happy you’re here. ❤️
